• Ironman Western Australia Triathlon: 5 Dec 2009

  Discover the world of exciting elite iron men and women. Ironman Western Australia Triathlon allows spectators to watch as elite Ironman competitors trudge through a 3.8 kilometre swim adjacent to Western Australia's iconic Busselton Jetty; 180.2 kilometre bike course through the Tuart Forest and a 42.2 kilometre run along the foreshore. This event is now part of the world-wide family of Ironman distance races which attract over 30,000 athletes to attempt to qualify for the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii. The Ironman triathlon will provide competitors and spectators to experience the excitement and athleticism of a world class sporting event in one of the state's premier seaside resort towns. • Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight: 24 Dec 2009

  You are invited to celebrate the magic of Christmas with song at the 2009 Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight. This year the iconic event turns 72 and it is expected to be as vibrant and magical as ever. Held in the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, the night will feature an array of contemporary and traditional performers that is sure to delight and entertain the whole family. All proceeds raised from the event go towards children who are blind or have low vision. Tickets go on sale November 2009 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. On Wednesday the 23rd of December 2009 you can experience much of the fun and splendour of Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight rehearsal at a significantly reduced rate. It is a great opportunity to see how the event comes together and get a sneak preview of the show. It allows for performers to rehearse and broadcast partners and organisers to test the event. This involves sound checks and rehearsals for performances. Entry fee to the rehearsals is by donation at the gate.

• ISAF Sailing World Cup - Sail Melbourne: 14 - 19 Dec 2009

  Sail Melbourne is proud to be a part of the new ISAF Sailing World Cup. As part of an illustrious group of international sailing regattas that have earned their place in the history of Olympic sailing, Sail Melbourne now sits proudly among them as an international showcase sailing event. Olympic Classes invited to compete include Finn, 470, 49er, Laser Standard, Laser Radial, RS:X, Skud, 2.4m, Star and Women's Match Racing. This year s event will also include the opportunity for International Youth Classes to compete - 29er, 420, Hobie 16 s, International Cadets, Laser 4.7, Optimists, RS:X Youth and a Cat Class (possibly Tornado). The world's best Olympic sailors will be in Melbourne in December.

• 2009 Indian Rim Asian University Games: 7 - 11 Nov 2009

  The Indian Rim Asian University Games are a celebration of sport for the sake of friendship and is the largest ever international university sporting event held in Australia. Open to university teams from the Indian Ocean Rim and Asian regions, the Games are an excellent opportunity for university students to experience international competition, interact in a positive fashion with a variety of cultures and, in the process, build life long friendships. Ten sports will be contested in both mens and womens formats during the event from 7 to 11 December, 2009. The sports include football, soccer, rugby 7's, badminton, tennis, hockey, judo, ultimate, water polo, beach volleyball and cricket 20/twenty.

  The Alice Springs Council Christmas Carnival is jammed packed with activities and live entertainment for people of all ages. This family friendly community event will have a mix of magicians, circus performers, buskers, magicians and balloon twisters roving the mall. A special treat for the children is the Universal Solar Garden, with activities to keep them entertained for hours. Whilst you shop amongst the numerous market stalls, listen to the sounds of Alice's local musicians. The stalls offer a variety of arts and crafts, fresh produce, plants, clothes, books, jewellery and global foods that will give that enhanced shopping experience for the last minute Christmas shopper.
